The single vineyard 2012 Finca Cascorrales is sourced from an un-grafted, head-pruned vineyard planted in 1895 on clay and sandy soils. It matured in second use French oak barrels for one year, where it also underwent malolactic fermentation. The effect of the barrels is still noticeable in the wine, in the shape of smoky and spicy aromas. The percentage of new oak has been reduced in the more recent vintages and the new wines show less oaky than these. In any case, this has the clout and depth to take the élevage and the palate feels compact, powerful without excess, with great finesse, and a sense of freshness that is striking. This is quite complete. Only 866 bottles and 50 magnums were filled in June 2014. 93/100.
