Molitor's intensely citrus colored 2017 Pinot Blanc Wehlener Klosterberg *** displays a fascinating, deep, highly concentrated yet fine and elegant bouquet of super ripe but well-defined fruit aromas intertwined with a hint of toast and a crystalline, refreshing terroir note with crushed slate and fresh lemon scents. On the palate, this is a supple, deep, juicy, fresh and mineral structured Pinot Blanc with enormous concentration, very fine tannins and persistent salinity. The expansive finish is crystal clear, very intense, mouthwateringly juicy and endlessly fresh. This is a highly complex and persistent white from the coolish Klosterberg that turns out to be a great terroir for Pinot Blanc. This 2017 is grand cru at its best, but the wine needs lots of air or years of cellaring to display its finesse and transparency. This is a terrific effort, but you should have the patience to wait for five or even ten years. Tasted twice in four days from the same bottle in March and April 2019.
