The 2016 Verdicchio Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore Riserva Misco explodes from the glass in an intense display of green citrus, hinting at tropical yet savory, as notes of grapefruit, peppery herbs, caraway, and stone dust join the fray. On the palate, the textures are unreal, wonderfully rich, and soothing, as they coat all that they touch with ripe orchard fruits and hints of ripe banana, giving way to saline-minerals and sweet inner florals. The finish is long, resonating on sweetness, yet also buzzing with residual acids and a hint of lime. Wow, it’s a big expression for Verdicchio, yet so balanced. It is amazing to think that it’s done all in stainless steel, on the lees for twelve months, with no bâtonnage. In order words, this is a great expression of terroir. 93/100.
