a licorice-tinged bouquet of dark berries, cherries and mulberries, the 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Safres is beautifully complete. Medium- to full-bodied, sappy and layered, it delivers a fleshy, enveloping core of fruit framed by velvety tannins, concluding with a long, ethereal and perfumed finish. More approachable in its youth than its siblings, this blend of 90% Grenache Noir and 10% Mourvèdre is a resounding success. 94/100.

Ripe red berry fruits, crushed stone, flowers, and subtle spice all shine in the aromatics. It's medium-bodied, has a pure, focused, elegant mouthfeel, and outstanding length. I love its overall balance, and it's very much in the straight, clean, technical style of this estate today.
