The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard comes from vines planted in 1964. It was aged 20 months in 50% new Atelier oak. Medium to deep ruby, it offers scents of fresh herbs, mint chocolate, cedar, pencil shavings, blackcurrant and baked black cherries plus warm red cherry preserves, crushed stone and leather hints. Medium to full-bodied, it offers a good interplay of spice/herbs with ripe black fruits in the mouth, framed by very ripe, finely pixelated tannins and great freshness to lift the long, concentrated, layered finish. 93/100.

Inky red/purplish berry fruit, grilled herbs, black pepper and licorice give the 2016 its distinct pungent character. The tannins are powerful, but all the elements are impeccably balanced. In 2016, Andy Smith crafted a Cabernet that is both potent and also very elegant.
